Crack Addiction Rehabilitation – Abolish Dependency

Posted by fabfeistyandfifty on January 27, 2012

While the lethal drug wars of the ’80s and ’90s have passed into legend, the need for crack rehab remains urgent. There are a million crack abusers each year and it is especially pernicious because a single use can make an addict of someone who thought they might be “just experimenting.” Unlike powder cocaine, crack is inexpensive and therefore a threat to a broad segment of humanity.

Source

Cocaine is derived from the cocoa leaf, indigenous to South America and imparting its stimulating effect when chewed. In this form, it’s about as strong as a good cup of coffee. However, the active ingredient in the leaf was identified and powder cocaine was first processed in the mid-19th Century. Its potency was ramped up again in the 1980s, when the drug industry’s chemists learned to process a smoking form of the drug without risking explosion.

Effects

The user smokes the drug and then feels its powerful effect in just eight to ten seconds. It creates a huge dopamine rush, bringing the characteristic intense feeling of elation. The user feels he or she has escaped all mundane problems. This feeling, however, is exceptionally short-lived, lasting only about ten minutes. The elation is followed by a significant crash, making the user almost desperate to return to the elation.

Responsibility Rejection

Tantalizingly, that feeling only takes a few dollars, so it’s never far away. The user quickly gets caught in a treadmill of going from hit to hit, with the greatest terror being the possibility of ever touching the ground. The drug becomes all the user cares about. Any earlier commitment, up to and including the family bond, loses all importance. Addicts have been known to sell off everything of value, to steal and borrow from others, or become prostitutes, rather than give up their high.

Physical Symptoms

Numerous physical afflictions join this deterioration of life. These include everything from seizures to strokes. Addicts are subject to auditory hallucinations. They might have trouble breathing and after a time, their lungs might collapse. The use of the drug also damages the heart and circulatory system. The heartbeat itself might grow irregular. Addicts are also subject to heart attracts.

Treatment

The first step in the addict’s treatment program is detoxification. The addict becomes a patient, treated as an inpatient in a facility, whether a hospital or some smaller, more dedicated center. It can take days for the patient to endure the entire withdrawal process. Propranolol can help the patient get through it but the patient will suffer loss of sleep, irritability, loss of appetite and of course, craving more of the drug. If seizures become a problem, the doctor will administer vigabatrin.

Psychological Help

The psychological and social problems the addict faces will typically be more of a problem than the physical challenges. Unless there’s real physical damage, the patient can receive outpatient counseling. Those with especially difficult recoveries are assigned to inpatient rehab under strict care. After successful medical drug addiction detox, they may receive therapy in a group home.

Kicking Alcoholism With Intensive Outpatient Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Posted by fabfeistyandfifty on January 26, 2012

There are two different kinds of treatments when it comes to alcohol addiction. Residential alcohol treatment seems to be more well-known than intensive outpatient alcohol rehab but the latter is a great way to help individuals overcome the addictions and maintain a healthy and sober lifestyle. Both treatments are effective but it is important to understand how each works because each person will have their own, individual preference for treatment.

Effectiveness

Outpatient treatment centers differ from residential treatment centers because they do not require people to stay overnight. When the treatment is done for that day, they are allowed to go home as opposed to residential treatment centers where they are required to stay. Both have the same kinds of treatment methods like detox programs and counseling so they are both affective. One is just more structured than the other, which is what some people need.

Misconception

One big misconception is that outpatient programs are not as effective as residential programs, which is wrong. They both work very well. They both help their patient get better and stay sober.

Communication

Outpatient programs help members recover by allowing individuals to talk about their problems with each other. This gives them a chance to talk about things they do not usually share with those who don’t understand addiction. They get to talk to people who completely understand where they are coming from because they all suffer from addiction.

Building Bonds

This helps them recover because it allows them to talk about all the problems and get everything out. This also helps them build strong bonds with each other and they are able to keep each other strong. The support of others is vital for recovery and continued sobriety.

It Takes Time

This kind of treatment takes time before it becomes effective. Many people have to go for about thirty days before they are completely sober so individuals need to stay committed to the program through the entire process. If the indeed want to live a life of sobriety, they will stick to the program.

Normal Daily Routine

They are still able to go to work or do other daily activities as long as they go to the alcohol addiction detox meetings in the morning or in the afternoon. They have to rely on their own will to get better. It allows for more freedom and as long as people are willing to work hard and be disciplined, they will successfully complete the treatment.

Santa Barbara’s Moreton Bay Fig Tree located in Santa Barbara, California is believed to be the largest Ficus macrophylla in the country[1]. It is believed the Moreton Bay fig tree came to Santa Barbara via ship from the Moreton Bay region of eastern Australia.

Originally planted between State and Montecito Streets, the tree was transplanted, by Hannah Crabb and her daughter Adeline, when it was "as tall as a walking stick"[1].

In July 1997 the circumference of the tree at 4-1/2 feet above ground was 498 inches (41-1/2 feet). The average crown spread was 176 feet and the total height was 80 feet. Measured in November 1991, the branch spread was 167 feet with a total height of 76 feet. The trunk diameter above the buttress roots is 12.5 feet[2].

Passport Expediting – Ideas And Methods

Posted by fabfeistyandfifty on January 24, 2012

When planning an international trip, many travelers assume they have thought of every detail. Then, panic sets in as they realize that they have forgotten to obtain or renew their passport. The American pass port expediting alternatives will allow travelers to take possession of their documents before their travel date. Travelers have the option of either expediting on their own or using an expediting agency.

1st Time Applicants

First-time applicants for documents are expected to apply in-person. Form DS-11 should be completed by the applicant but should remain unsigned until in the presence of an Acceptance Agent. Applicants should provide several pieces of important information, including proof of citizenship and applicable identification, like a government-issued ID or driver’s license. In addition, applicants must submit photocopies of identification, pay the applicable fee and deliver a photo for their documents.

Minors

The State Department has separate procedures for minors under 16. Like adults, minors complete Form DS-11 and provide proof that they are U. S. Citizens. Also, minors present proof that they are related to parents such as a birth certificate that has both parents’ names. Then, parents submit identification and photocopies before paying the appropriate fee and providing a passport photo for the minor.

Delivery Methods

Applicants have the option of renewing in-person or via mail. To renew, applicants provide Form DS-82 and their undamaged U. S. Passport. According to the State Department, people should utilize a delivery method that can be traced and should use a large envelope for their documents. If original documents are damaged, applicants will have to renew in-person.

Time Restraints

First-time applicants who are expediting their documents should call their regional agency. Setting up an appointment at the regional agency is also a good idea if the applicant needs a visa in less than four weeks or travels in less than two weeks. Agencies will strive to provide documents before they are needed but applicants must do their part by bringing their required documentation with them when they attend their appointment.

Help Through The Mail

Mail-in applications can also be expedited. The State Department recommends that applicants pay for two-way overnight delivery to ensure quick processing. The outside of the envelope must be marked “Expedite.” The State Department website provides information about current processing times for expedited passports via mail but if these times will not get the renewal to the applicant in time for the trip, the applicant should make an in-person appointment.

Agencies Can Help

For some people, jumping through all of the hoops of the adding US pass port pages application process sounds tiresome. You have the option of using expediting agencies to move their documents through the application process quickly. Travelers will find many agencies online, but they should take the time to verify the phone number of each agency by calling it. If the agency’s phone number is not legitimate, then travelers should not send documents to that company.
