In a hurry to get your passport? Currently, the routine passport processing takes around four to six weeks. That’s a long time if you need to leave in less than four weeks. That’s why there’s the expedite US passport. And as its name suggests, it’s the type of passport you’ll need if you want to get your passport a lot faster than routine passport processing.
If you need to travel out of the country within or less than ten weeks, the US Department of State recommends you have your passport application expedited. But more than this, there are other reasons why other people choose an expedited option for their passports. Find out what these reasons are in the following paragraphs.
Probably the most obvious reason why you’d want to have your passport expedited is that doing so will save you a lot of time. Expedited American Passports typically take two to three weeks to process, so this is the most sensible option you have if you need your passport in less than four weeks. And since expediting your application saves time, it’s no wonder why most people choose this application option.
Another reason why people choose to have their application expedited is the convenience it brings. Four weeks can be a very long waiting time for some people, so if you don’t want to wait that long, an expedited passport will solve that problem for you. With expedited passports, you no longer have to worry about how many days you still need to spend waiting for your passport to arrive.
Then of course there’s the need for some to have their passports expedited because they need to leave in less than four weeks. If you fall under this category, you of course don’t have any choice but to choose the expedited option. If you have to leave, then you really have to leave.
People who choose to have their passports expedited often fall into two categories. One category is the group of people who need to leave the country in less than two weeks. The other one is the group that needs to have their passports ready in four weeks’ time in order to apply for a foreign visa. If you fall into either of these categories, then chances are you need to have your application expedited.
Before you have your passport expedited, ensure that the document will arrive to the passport office safely. You can do this by first placing your documents in a secure envelope, one that doesn’t easily get wet or destroyed by the elements. Another one is that you should mark the envelope ‘EXPEDITED’ to ensure that it goes through the expedited procedure. Then finally, make sure you can keep track of your mail so you’ll know that it’s arrived safely to the addressee.
