Finally, 5 years ago Eczacibasi Holding opened Istanbul Modern, the first private museum to organize modern and contemporary art exhibitions in Turkey. Istanbul Modern is located in Karakoy, by the Bosphorus sea in a great venue and the museum hosts art in 8000 sqm. There are permanent and temporary exhibition galleries, a photography gallery, a library, a cinema center, a great cafe with amazing view and a design shop.

The Museum is also a multipurpose cultural center and during summer many events and concerts take place at the fabulous garden of Istanbul Modern and you’re stunned by the incredible Bosphorus view. If you’re in to arts or you just want to spend some time in one of the coolest venues of Istanbul, you should definitely visit Istanbul Modern to witness, learn about, enjoy and appreciate contemporary art.

One of the permanent exhibition there is called ” New Works, New Horizons”. The exhibition presents viewers with a comprehensive look at the evolution of modern and contemporary arts produced in Turkey. Emphasizing that a work of art is part of life and exsists along the interactions surrounding it, this exhibition also describes the historical transformation that art in turkey underwent in 20th century.

Designated as a “working area”, the smaller hall is simultaneously used as a setting in which to undertake projects exploring development in the contemporary arts. An exhibition format that juxtaposes artists from different places and backgrounds is intended to encourage production by providing a home for the projects of individuals and groups. The ?stanbul Modern collection encompasses a wide range of disciplines from painting to sculpture and from installation to video.
